Remote PrintmakingArtPress Publishing is not limited by its proximity to an artist who wishes to create a fine-art giclée. With 10 years of experience offering the same detail-oriented proofing and printmaking production process to clients from Alaska to New York, the production process does not change regardless of where the client is working from. This offers opportunities to those who live abroad or who prefer the convenience of working at home.Choosing ArtPress PublishingThere are many choices available to an artist seeking to reproduce a work of art, including local copy shops and printers. ArtPress Publishing stands apart from the local printmakers for three reasons. Almost no other print shop is equipped with an Iris fine-art printer. Not only do Iris prints replicate the look and feel of an original watercolor or pastel, these prints are incredibly durable and will not scuff or flake.More importantly, ArtPress establishes a solid relationship between artist and printmaker. Each member of the ArtPress team is an artist who brings a wealth of personal experience and knowledge. This common ground between artists facilitates the printmaking process, giving ArtPress the ability to satisfy the customer and the customer the confidence that the work of art will be produced right. Art is a personal endeavor by the artist and ArtPress treats each image with respect. The third advantage offered by ArtPress Publishing is that more than printmaking is offered; ArtPress is a publishing company. Valuing the relationship with each client, ArtPress offers to promote prints and originals to galleries and art representatives. This Artist Network combines quality prints, our relationship with each artist, and our publishing network, making ArtPress Publishing the choice for fine-art giclées anywhere. Transporting the OriginalFor many artists, transporting the original work of art is not an issue. Paintings on canvas and works on paper can be rolled onto a cardboard core and shipped safely in a tube. The original would then be unrolled and kept safe in our studio during the proofing process and returned with the final print. Originals, unless otherwise stated by the artist, are shipped with insurance.Stretched canvases can also be shipped, but for some, the price to send a large stretched canvas across the country can be prohibitively expensive. In these instances, it is possible to create a giclée from a 4 x 5" or 2.25 x 2.25" color transparency. It is important to note that the quality of the print is directly affected by the quality of the transparency. The Proofing ProcessOnce the original or transparency has been captured, the proofing process begins. Just as with any other job, a series of test prints are created and, when they match the original, the artist will be contacted. Instead of having the artist visit the studio, the sample prints will be mailed to the artist for examination. A telephone conversation, e-mail, or notes written on the proofs will finalize any changes (if any) to be made before the final run.Due to uncontrollable variation in computer monitors, the proofing process can not be performed on a computer. Each monitor displays color differently and the color is altered once it is placed on the paper or canvas. The only absolute in printmaking is the physical print, which is why a hard copy must be mailed to the artist for inspection during the proofing process. Final StepsOnce the proofing process has been completed, the final print will be run and mailed along with the original.
