Larry HatlettLarry Hatlett is a photographer who grew up in the Palo Alto area. His father was a photography enthusiast who trained him in darkroom work at an early age. He is a graduate of Menlo Atherton High School and Stanford University. He lives in downtown Palo Alto where he directs Yoga In Palo Alto.Larry's photographs have been published in many magazines, including American Photo, Outdoor & Travel Photography, Shutterbug, The Photo Review, Photo (France), and Practical Photography (England). Many of his photographs have won awards, including prizes in the Palo Alto Weekly Photo Contest. His work is exhibited in many corporate and private collections. He is represented by The Photographers Gallery of Palo Alto, which had a recent solo exhibit of his latest work. Larry currently uses a Linhof Master Technika 4x5 field camera, which he finds is a very satisfying photographic experience. He enjoys the whole set up; arranging the tripod, attaching and opening the camera, choosing the lens, focusing with the loupe, using the hand held light meter to determine how to set the aperture and film speed, and finally taking the photograph. For a few years in the mid 90's he experimented with a medium format camera because of the convenience and lighter weight, but missed the satisfaction of being more involved in the whole process, and went back to 4x5. Larry photographs nature for enjoyment and to share his vision of its beauty, quietness and strength. His sensitivity to simply being quiet, present and very observant in nature allows him to capture some of the most beautiful photographic images of the American landscape. His hope is that in rediscovering nature's wonder, we can be inspired to help preserve it. Excited by the rapidly changing world of color printing, Larry has been experimenting with both dye based Iris Giclee prints and pigment based Giclee prints, on a variety of papers.
