“The Hurricane Kites”
There is a point where the wall can no longer hold the idea. Or it may be when the artist believes the idea must become real. The “Hurricane Kites” began as drawings and small collages, however in 2005 they left two dimensions and assumed a monumental scale with their first installation in the Reutershan Trust Courtyard on Eastern Long Island. In February of 2008, 64 “Hurricane Kites” were installed in the new IRS Processing Center in Kansas City. The 16’ carbon fiber and Kevlar™ kites float overhead in three 600 foot long rooms with 60 foot ceilings. The modern high tech fabrics are translucent, and when light passes through the kites they appear to be self illuminating. As the light of the day changes, the kites document and interpret these changes.
